Sunday Brunch
Recently I went to Brunch in honor of a close friend's birthday. Our restaurant of choice was Matiz, a Latin Restaurant located on Queens Blvd, NY. The Ambience was nice although it was pretty dim for daytime hours and considering the weather was on the snowy side some lights wouldn't have hurt.
We had our choice from the Brunch menu with choices were typical omlettes, hash browns, waffles avocado toast, etc. But I decided to choose from the not so obvious brunch menu and I ordered Churrasco , Rice & Beans, Maduros and a French 75 from the entire menu.
Wait time to take our order took about 10mins, not too bad IMO but we were the only customers at the time...
The amount of time to receive our food took about 40mins to hour AND we were the ONLY people in the restaurant
Pros: food was well seasoned and steak cooked "very well done" and flavorful just the way I like it (chef’s kiss)...Maduros were perfectly sweet and crispy by the edges- perfection...Rice & Beans were the saving grace of the meal but I will get to that later.
Cons: We literally waited 1 hour to receive our meals, did I mention we were the only people in the restaurant. Once received, I won't lie I was so hungry I neglected to take the pre meal selfie. The Churassco comes with a cheese stuffed potato which to the cheese lover in me sounded delectable but in reality seemed to be wasteful because I couldn't figure out where one began and the other ended. In this usually cohesive relationship was the potato, but it seemed the cheese won out and WELL! that was that. And o basically that's how I left it (shrug), overly grateful that I ordered the rice & beans becausee I ended up using it as my side and last but certainly not least my beloved French 75, the joy I have when order this drink because it makes me feel slightly more chic but not this version, the Gin took over the whole drink., it lacked sweetness and the level of elegance I usually feel when I’m leaning into my glass. It just left me with a "WHOMP WHOMP" feeling with a screwed faced attached—it made me sad.
Overall I would say this is a nice place to eat but if cheese isn’t your choice of condiment be cautious because they aren’t about adding it. But who am I to judge the Steve Urkels of the world will leave with some level of satisfaction.
XOXO,
D
