Top 3 Fabrics To Wear During The Summer
I know I’ve been MIA lately but better late than never in letting you know how to upgrade your fresh this summer.
Obviously its hot outside and summer has officially made it’s mark as the penthouse level of hell that it is. I don't know about you but I don’t sweat I “glisten”…yes glisten I can't appreciate the word "sweat", it sounds salty. All that being said, when I think about the level of glisten that occurs I may or may not feel like I’ve developed an ocean in my armpits and lady lumps (TMI) and there are certain materials that not only provide sweat stain protection but also maximizes my confidence while limiting the effect the heat is having on me.
I'm going to let you know my favorite fabrics that not only help me stay cool but ALSO limit the appearance of smiley faces while trying staying cute, iykyk 😬.
Cotton
First up, cotton, and I dont mean cotton blend I mean 100% farm grown cotton. Like if your old enough to remember the commercials, promoting the cotton seal of approval- get that. It's hypoallergenic, durable and most importantly it can absorb the moisture your body produces. That’s what you need, a fully breathable material that is simple enough to get the job done but also isn’t hard to find. Cotton is everywhere, whether you shop at Macy’s, Neiman’s, Walmart or Target, cotton is that material that is the corner stone of clothing. Go get you some.
Linen
I will say this is fabric has a private sector in my closet and has exclusive access to the outdoors when summer hits. I know it gets wrinkled, but that's what a hand steamer is for (believe me, you’ll thank me later). Linen has a history from Babylonian and Egyptian times for mummification (ask google) but today it can be used to make suits, dress, skirts and hats. It’s breathable and has longevity. Think of it as an investment, every summer we buy new clothes to “update“ our wardrobes, but buying key linen pieces will curate your wardrobe. And it doesn’t have to be expensive either, there are places to buy 100% linen pieces and won’t break the bank. For instance, TJMAXX, I mean imagine that? and I’m talking about Finen Italian Linen, you just have to know when new picks arrive. So think about it, I wouldn't steer you wrong the investment is worth it.
Silk
And now finally the Beyonce of fabrics that not only refuses to let you look like you just came from a water fight but elevates your fly. Silk is a material that not only sounds bougie but its effectiveness is top tier. It’s of course its breathable, light, absorbent, but it’s most important feature, it’s a thermo-regulator. Yes!, thermo-regulator, it will be like wearing a central air conditioner unit on your body, imagine that!. The silk fibers are able to absorb and contain body heat, preventing you from over heating but also stops you from getting cold in the winter time. So silk’s usefulness is year round not just in the summer season. I know slip dresses are what’s hot right now (no pun intended) but you have to be careful not to choose satin thinking its like silk because it isn’t. Satin is like polyester, and doesn’t have the breathability you need during those hot summer days.
For some of use who are used to picking our clothes based on how cute they are will have to take the extra step by reading the garment tags. It will make the guessing game out and simplify the fabric break down. At the end of the day it’s not just about maintaining your body temp but also your coin because you don’t want to waste money on low quality materials.
So what’s your pick: cotton, linen or silk? Let me know below.
